When I became a mom, holidays changed. Christmas was more fun, Halloween was now necessary and Mother’s Day was about me. Finding a balance between my family traditions and those of the family centered on my parents has posed challenges. Father’s Day, though, has been easy. We spend the calendar day at the choosing of my spouse, which usually doesn’t include pilgrimages to ancestral homes. We each, at some point, deliver a card, a gift and a well-wish to our own dads.
My dad is a nice guy. He always loves to see us; always loves whatever we bring over; always loves to regale us with his newest stories from the internet. I’m going to bring him oatmeal cookies. Today. Friday June 18. He will love them.
Happy Father’s Day!
